Breaches are Inevitable, so Plan Ahead

Gary Barlet of Illumio suggests that federal agencies take a different perspective to more successfully achieve the current array of new government cybersecurity mandates: “Rather than chasing the impossible goal of preventing all breaches from happening, agencies can make more significant progress by proactively working to limit the impact of a cyberattack.” This involves treating the “zero trust” principle as part of a process, prioritizing the investments that will make the greatest difference in improving the resilience of systems in the inevitable event of some kind of breach.
